Amanda Palmer - Ninja Gig @ Carageworks

Following her massive gig at the Opera House on Australia, Amanda Palmer put on a Ninja Gig at Carageworks Saturday night. Amanda Palmer AKA half of The Dresden Dolls, half of Evelyn Evelyn is an alternative type with an aversion to shirts and has a massive fanatical fan-base of mostly 18 year olds in corsets and alternative types.

It was a pretty entertaining gig with plenty of guest musicians, ukuleles, chit chat and funny stories that went for over 2 hours!

"Welcome to the quietest bar in Sydney"

That is probably not what you want to hear on a Saturday night, but last week I visited Grandma’s on Clarence Street. Quite possibly the quietest bar in Sydney, probably the newest.

Grandma’s has only been open for a coupel of weeks and I am sure it will really pick up. It is one of those places where you need to know where you are going, otherwise it would be very easy to miss the place.

When we arrived we were greeted by two of the friendliest bar tenders in Sydney and you kind of feel like you are walking into someone’s lounge room. The place is complete with doilies, parker furniture, kitschy nanna deco, summer cocktails and comfort food (who doesn’t love a cheese jaffle with their drink). I had an ‘Atomic Punch’ a delicious mix of rums, peach and passion fruit, topped with Champagne topped with a plastic mermaid... why not?


Where: Basement, 275 Clarence Street, Sydney – wander along Clarence St until you see an orange light coming from a basement.

Why: Cocktails, freiendly staff and a place where you can hear your own voice – or those you are with

Happy 2011!!!

It is that time of year again when we pick ourselves up, dust ourselfs off and quite possibly promise never to drink again.... but more importantly it is time to vote in Triple J's Hottest 100!!!

2010 was a great year for music and it was really hard to choose just 10 tracks. Last year Mumford & Son's took the crown with 'Little Lion Man' (see the full 2009 countdown here) this year I would put my money on Mark Ronson's track 'Somebody To Love Me' featuring Boy George & Andrew Wyatt because Boy George is sstrangely awesome.
