Dorothy Perkins - UK

I love a bit of international shopping, especially if you can do it in your lunch break!

I have just discovered Dorothy Perkins a UK site that currently has 50% off shipping to Australia, making that only £5 per order. Now that the Australian dollar is around £0.6 it makes buying from the UK really affordable.... not like when I last in the UK in 2002 and the Australian dollar was closer to £0.3!

Here are a few of my favourites:

Mocha twill mac Price: £50.00

Purple suedette panel clutch bag Price: £15.00

Rise black embellished shoulder dress Price: £40.00

Happy shopping!

Inception Vs Dark City

There has been a lot of talk recently about Inception. The net especially Facebook has been abuzz about how awesome the movie is. Here is the trailer:

But still i don't plan to see it. Firstly after reading the review by Karl Quinn on SMH titled "Going deep — to a place that’s too silly for words" here are a few clip from the article:

"HOW old was I when I first wrote those words? Eleven, 12, maybe. I should remember because it was also the last time I wrote them without irony. ‘‘What an appalling cliche,’’ said Mr C, my grade 7 teacher, as he ordered me to stick out my hand so he could caress it gently with the cane end of a feather duster six or seven times.

Clearly Christopher Nolan didn’t go to a primary school run by the Sisters of Show No Mercy because he appears to have missed that little Pavlovian lesson in which crappy ‘‘it was all just a dream’’ scenarios are indelibly linked with a throbbing palm. As evidence, see Inception.

Nolan’s latest film has been called ‘‘the intellectually tantalising movie The Matrix wanted to be’’ (The Sydney Morning Herald), ‘‘so intense and unnerving it’ll have you worrying if it’s safe to close your eyes at night’’ (Los Angeles Times), and ‘‘confusing as all f---’’ (the guy next to me at the urinal afterwards). But I know what Mr C would say: ‘‘Nolan. Hand. Out. NOW!

Sadly, no one planted this thought in Christopher Nolan’s mind: ‘‘Mate, it’s too silly for words.’’"

So that is one reason why I am not rushing to the cinema and the second reason is because the trailer strangely reminds me of this....

Above is the trailer for Dark City (1998) a B grade sci-fi film staring Rufus Sewell (gloomy looking English guy) and a naked Melissa George in one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Bar Review - Manly Wine by Gazebo

Last night I went for drinks at Manly Wine by Gazebo. It must have been a quiet night, as it was the first time we have got through the door! The last couple of times I have been past the place has been packed with a long line out the front. But last night was so quiet we even got a seat.

The place looks a bit like the Ivy with an eclectic range of fake plants, pink flamingos and Catholic ornaments which made me feel like I had walked into a scene from Baz Luhrmann's film 'Romeo and Juliet'. The lighting is a great mix of candlelight and old fashioned coloured lampshades oddly positioned on the walls.

But the real reason I would go back there is for the wine and cocktail list! The menu is great reading just on it's own, I can't wait to go back and try the blood orange and vanilla bellini, but next time I will remember not to be the designated driver.

They have a pretty cool website: thegazebos.com.au/manly

Song of the week... Bang Bang Bang

My song of the week brought to you all the way from Persher is "Bang Bang Bang" by musical genius Mark Ronson, the superstar producer behind Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, Ghostface Killah, Daniel Merriweather and of other artists who's names you wouldn't see together anywhere else. "Bang Bang Bang" also features rapper Q-Tip and Amanda Warner from the electro duo MNDR. Ronson's last album Version (with covers of Radiohead, Coldplay, The Smiths and Kaiser Chiefs) was awesome. I am really excited to hear the new album 'Record Collection' set to be released around October this year.

Check out the clip, the crazy intro runs until 0:35. Enjoy!

Random fact: Mark Ronson's little sister is the DJ Sam Ronson, Lindsay Lohan's ex girlfriend.

Perisher Gigs - Luke Robinson

I am off to Perisher tomorrow for a week of snowboarding, skiing, drinking, good company (here's hoping) and a couple of gigs.

Luke Robinson, singer from the band The Perfect Revolution will be playing a bunch of acoustic gigs in Perisher and Jindabyne next week which I hope to catch. And congrats to Luke for making the Grand Final Smirnoff Singer Competition @ The Piano Room last Thursday.

See Luke's MySpace for dates www.myspace.com/lukerobinsonsound

Update 17/07/10: Luke is now opening for Metal As Anything tonight @ the Station, Jindabyne

iPhone Blogging

I have just installed the BlogPress app on my iPhone so now I can blog on the run... And at the snow

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

I am off to Perisher on Sunday for a week of snowboarding! I am really excited as over 30cm snow fell earlier this week and another 3cm last night. If this keeps up we should have an awesome week.

Nikki from office was kind enough to crochet me this beanie!

Etsy or Regretsy on Masterchef

Has anyone else noticed Courtney from Masterchefs neck decoration she has been wearing lately?

Sure there should be rules about what these amateur cooks wear in the kitchen. It think it is only a matter of time before someone finds a big black feather in their dumpling. I am glad Aaron had taken to covering up his mop with a beanie.

But really if you have not already checked out the website www.regretsy.com. It is really where DIY meets WTF!

I am not a fan of Twilight, but this made me laugh.

Crochet your lunchtime away

Crocheting is taking my office by storm. While no one has yet come to work in this ensemble, I don't think think it will be long.

While one girl is crocheting a lovely nanna rug, our crochet mentor Nik has started making us all beanies! Just in time for my trip to the snow next week.

My Favourite Blogs

TV Tonight - Australia's Leading TV Blog, a great resource and often have breaking TV news before anywhere else.

The Vine - News and Entertainment, not strictly a blog but features blogs as well as articles on entertainment, music, fashion and food.

Go Fug Yourself - Not nearly as rude as it sounds (fug = fantastic + ugly) it is my favourite site for celebrity fashion... especially the bad.

Perez Hilton - The Queen of all media has the trashiest celebrity reporting of all, but always amusing.

Mashable - Social media news and funny stuff

Going Pantless?

I am going out for a girls night this Friday, which got me thinking... what should I wear?

Ruby Rose's outfit from the ASTRA awards came to mind for some reason. I really liked the Willow leotard, but can any normal person really pull this off? Even IF (that's a big if) I could pull this off, where could you wear such a thing? Just imagine going to dinner or a bar, you would want to be really careful where you sat.

Have you ever seen anyone pull this look off?

Song of the week... Just be good to Green

I love Lily Allen and this week I can't get her new song "Just be good to Green" out of my head, here is the clip.

The song technically by Professor Green is a cover of the 1983 single by The S.O.S. Band "Just be good to me". This is the first I have heard of this skinny white rapper who has been compared to Eminem because he is... well... white..

Anyway, check out the YouTube clip.
